Karin Slaughter - Blindsighted

REviewed by showhost on 30th October 2008
I read this a couple of years ago - it had been recommended as being like Patricia Cornwells books with Kay Scarpetta (chief medical examiner), which I always enjoyed.
Blindsighted is set in present day Georgia USA. Main character is Sarah Linton who is a local paedetrician and the local medical examiner. Sarah lives in a small sleepy town which is shaken awake one day by a violent murder.
Sarah is having lunch at the local diner with her sister when she discovers the mutilated body of a local blind girl, Sybil who had been sadistically & savagely raped in the toilets. Sarah then had the job of examining Sybils' body at the morgue & discovered the sick workings of a depraved, religious freak. But it soon becomes apparent that Sarah is the intended target.
A few days later another sadistically murdered young local girl is found crucified on top of Sarahs car. These events start to trigger memories of Sarahs past. Sarahs ex-husband, Jeffrey, is the local sherrif and these cases start to being them into close contact again.
The third victim begins a frantic search for clues from Sarahs past to try to find the link, a possible link with a local person. The fourth victim is even closer to home and Sarah is the fifth.
It is a heart racing flourish to the finish. It will have you turning the pages and sitting up to read the last chapter
