Sadie Jones - The Outcast.

Review by Maggie Perkovic October 2008
I'm always interested by books that feature the fifties era, mainly because thats when I grew up!! However this is a rather dark presentation as possibly quite truthfully it shows a time when we never spoke out loud our fears and unhappiness.
The main character loses his mother at an early age in his life and his father is unable to share their combined grief. The boy behaves irrationally to his emotionally cold father and I am sure in the present century they would have had counselling and other ways of helping them both come to terms with her death. No heroes or villains in this book just suffering people who cannot express their feelings to each other. The ending has a possible better future for both of them.
