Review by Maggie Perkovic October 2008
Bill & Becca Holden together with small daughter Holly fly into shanghai as part of the new china, which employs Bill as a corporate lawyer. Although the lifestyle is prosperous Bill spends long hours at work and when her father is ill Becca takes Holly and returns to the UL leaving Bill alone and open to temptation. He falls for a chinese girl and through her learns some of the corrupt practices his firm uses where East meets West and the poorer chinese citizens suffer.
How he finally has to make a decision about his future and how his marriage and his new relationship work out is quite engrossing. No one writes about marriage as well as Tony Parsons and his insight into the modern China is illuminating.
