Review by Maggie Perkovic
This book has topped the best selling lists for weeks. Why??
It happens to have everything in it. Laughter, heartbreak, humour, information, the whole works.
Four women play a part in this charming man's life. Paddy De Courcy was engaged to one, was the lover of another, was rejected by another and now about to be a politician, he is marrying a fourth.
In different chapters we learn about him, his assent to power and we learn about the ladies in his life.
Marnie his first love, Lola his present lover, Grace who though attracted to him rejected him and finally Alicia, who is to marry him.
Marian Keyes has a great understanding of the Irish psyche. Her description of the Irish at work and at play, of different sets of parents, of how stylists work. Very informative and how all the links end up is a masterclass in good writing.
Thoroughly recommended, you don't end up as a best seller for weeks without having a very good pedigree.
