Harlan Coben - Drop Shot

Review by showhost
Tennis, murder, who dunnit, wise crack humour if you like all these ingredients in your book then you will enjoy drop shot by Harlan Coben.

Characters are Myron Bolitar and his psycho side kick Win (financial advisor & martial arts expert) plus his ‘ex-wrestling star turned secretary’, Esperanza. Myron Bolitar was an All-American basketball star destined for NBA stardom. A freak accident in a preseason scrimmage damaged his knee and ended his career before it began. He then worked as an undercover agent for the FBI, got a law degree from Harvard, and set up as a one man sports agency in an office in, New York City.. Myron looks after potential sports stars, their interest, makes sure they invest their money wisely etc.
It’s the height of the USA tennis open, and a tennis protege was about to meet with Myron when she is murdered in cold blood outside the stadium. Myron has another tennis star signed up with his agency, who is about to go on to the semi-finals of the US open but he becomes the main suspect of the murder. He has an alibi (he was playing tennis on court at the time) and denies having ever met the murdered girl but Myron knows that he is not telling him the truth.
Myron feels obliged to investigate the murder of the young girl and feels there is a link to the death 6 years ago of Senator Cross’s son. There are death threats to Myron and his family and he is told to let the matter drop, but Myron can’t do that, things just don’t add up.
I have read one other of this author and that one had the same characters in it. However,
I have to be in the mood for his books and I do enjoy them in an easy read kind of way, but I didn’t rush back to pick it up. This book will certainly keep you entertained and the wit will make you chuckle at times:
‘ as he approached the front door detectives Dimonte and Krinsky came out. In major shock Dimonte did not appear happy to see him. He put his hands on his hips. Important, impatient.
‘What the hell are you doing here!” he barked
“Do you know what happened to the Motels?” Myron asked.
“The what?”
Myron shook his head. “How quickly they forget.”
“Goddamn it Bolitar, I asked you a question. What do you want here?”
“You left your underpants at my house last night,” Myron said. “Jockey shorts. Size thirty eight. Litle bunny design”
Dimonte’s face grew red. Most cops were homophobes. Best way to needle them was to play on it….
