Stieg Larsson - The Girl Who Played with Fire

Review by showhost
There aren't enough superlatives to describe these books!
I read the prequel (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and now the middle one of the Millennium trilogy, is it as good .....well I think it may be better!
Lisbeth Salander is back with a vengeance!
Mikael Blomkvist, publisher of the Millennium magazine,(who hasn't seen Salander since she dropped out of his life) is approached by a journalist who is investigating sex trafficking and the powerful people who are involved in it (top police officers and politicians). He wants Blomkvist to run the story in his magazine which will co-incide with his wife's book which is along the same lines. Blomkvist takes it on with pleasure!
However, when the journalist and his wife are found dead in their Stockholm apartment by Blomkvist it triggers a police investigation.
The police find the murder weapon abandoned on the stairs with a set of fingerprints which happen to belong to Lisbeth Salander. As the police start digging into Slanders past they are more and more convinced that she is responsible both for their death and that of her guardian. She has a history of violence and phsycotic behaviour plus she has enemies in the police department who want to see her found guilty of the crimes. The police launch a massive womanhunt - she is armed and dangerous!
When Blomkvist discovers that Lisbeth is the main suspect he tries to help but Lisbeth is keeping him at arms length - the only contact is through their computers.

The plot has such an unexpected twist at the end and Salander is such a great character, you can't get enough of her! In fact this book is more about Salander and what had happened in her past to make her the way she is. Its Salander against the world in this exciting read! I feel that other books pale in comparison and I can't wait to wake up in the morning so I can read a little bit more!
