review by Ro Bennett on show 16th Dec 2010
Today I’m going to be talking about new books published by Hay House which would make good Christmas, New Year gifts. I am reviewing this one in more depth because I have just read it. It’s a beautifully designed and presented book which includes a CD of assorted fifteen minute meditations. The book is divided into 4 sections which correspond with those on the CD: so there is a Meditation for General Well Being, Financial Abundance, Physical Well Being and Relationships. The authors recommend that you read the relevant section before you do the fifteen minute meditation with the CD for the first time.
You can also download the book - so you can read it on your lap top and listen to it on your MP3 player. The digital download includes an extra track called Mainly Meditation with less vocal input from Esther Hicks.
Basically what they are claiming is that there is a Source of Well Being or God, whatever you like to call it and that we are physical manifestations of this Source Energy. Therefore our natural state of being is of health, well being, happy relationships and abundance. During these meditations, as we focus on our breathing and the words Esther is saying, then we are in a state of allowing, which means we have quieted our minds, so that there is an absence or decreasing of the resistant thought that pinches us off from Source Energy.
When we feel radiant, appreciative, when we are enjoying things like watching children play, or stroking our dog or laughing then we are in an optimum state of allowing Source Energy to flow into us. It is the Source Energy which brings health, well being, heals our relationships and so on.
They say that our feelings are emotional indicators of how much Source Energy we are allowing into our experience at any time. If we feel wretched, we are pretty resistant and pinched off and this lack of ease leads to dis-ease in due course and affects our sense of well being, our relationships and every other aspect of our lives. The meditations are designed to gently bring us into alignment with this Healing Energy. They call this getting into the Vortex.’
The reviews were mainly good though one person wrote:
I just couldn’t get into it AT ALL. To my ears, the music is awful, not even really music at all, just repetetive 'new age' tinkle tinkly piano noise that goes on and on and gets in the way of the voiceover (which is disappointing anyway) And it is the same on each track, doesn’t change, on an on.
However, another reviewer wrote:
These are the best recorded meditations that I have listened to. I love the guidance around the timing of breathing which is starting to impact my breathing for longer periods. I do a meditation every day and I love it. Already I notice that I am calmer and happier in myself.
The accompanying book provides wonderful background thoughts, explanations and considerations. I love that there are four different meditations to choose from: general wellbeing, financial wellbeing, physical wellbeing and relationship wellbeing.
This is just the best! I am so delighted with it. I can't think of a better Christmas present for anyone!
I found the book very interesting and thought provoking and am finding the meditations enjoyable and beneficial. (Chilled of Scilly!)
