Review by Babs Simpson on show 17th March
I have read several of this author's crime thrillers and always found them satisfying and a really good read. All the Colours of Dakness is no exception.
DCI Alan Banks is once again the lead character - a senior detective in the North Yorkshire police force - and the book opens with the discovery of a body hanging in woods in a well-known beauty spot. At first it appears to be a straightforward suicide, until another body, badly beaten, is found in a flat, a link established beween the two victims and, as they often say, the plot thickens.
I don't want to give too much away, but MI6 is involved and Inspector Banks and his colleagues are warned off pursuing the matter in a very frightening way. If, like me, you are a fan of Spooks, there are some fairly familiar aspects of MI6's methods, as well as some very sinister new ones.
While all this is going on, Bank's love-life once again takes a turn for the worse and there are some interesting side plots and great characterisation, as well as superb descriptions of North Yorkshire and also London.
All Peter Robinson's books are well worth reading if you enjoy a good, well-plotted, believable crime novel, and this is no exception.
