Linwood Barclay - Never Look Away

review by showhost
This is the second book by this author I have read, the first being 'No Time for Goodbye'.
David Harwood, his wife Jan & their 4yr old son Ethan, have planned a day trip to a recently opened amusement park near Albany USA, where they live.
His wife Jan has been depressed lately but seemed to perk up with the thought of the trip. However, once in the park someone runs off with their son in his pushchair. Jan runs off to tell the security, David searches the park. He find his son in the pushchair, still fast asleep and unharmed.
David goes to find Jan at the security office to tell her its ok but he can't find her and they have no recollection of seeing her.
He reports his wife missing to the police as well as the scare with his son. But David finds as time goes on that nothing in his story add up. Her depression not notices by anyone but him, there were only 2 tickets purchased for the park not three, no sign of her entering or leaving on the CCTV cameras at the park. In fact nobody had seen her since their mystery drive, just the two of them, the night before.
The discovery of the dead body of his wifes co-worker lead the police to believe that David may have murdered his wife, especially after he took out life insurance on her recently.
Flase identity, missing wife, jewel heist, plots within plots, corruption, threats and revenge all make for a good thriller.
There was one implausible moment at the end where she leans over the stairwell with the piece of wood but other than that a good absorbing thriller that kept me wanting to pick it up and read whilst on holiday.
