This is a book written by a German. It is of Germany just after
France has fallen. "It will be Britain next" is the word on the street. But what of the man on the street?
How do they feel??There is a the man and his wife and their son serving in the Army. When they
receive a telegram telling them of his death, they are devasted. The steps they take shows
not everyone is in awe of Hitler.What of the elderly Jewess in their block of flats?Bullied by other
tenants she fears the next knock on the door.A lazy and idle husband treats his wife and family
with contempt but finds himself in trouble with the "Party" as it is now. Unless you agree with
Hitler and his bullies you are suspect and an enemy of the state.
Very well written and a very interesting look at life in Germany during the war.
