I would like to add to the review on the 19th Wife.
I read it whilst on holiday recently. I found it a very interesting and absorbing book. It was interesting how the author had gone to Utah to talk to some of these wives to find out what their life was like in a polygamous marriage but they wouldn't speak to him.
But I did find myself thinking about the Muslims and the fact that they often have more than one wife....
I could understand some of the comments of the wives (when the story was recounting the life of Ann Eliza Young), yes some men do fool around, some men have mistresses, whats so different is that their wives don't know about them. However, they don't tend to go to the extremes of these 'Firsts'. But what of the children, the fact that their dad doesn't even know some of their names!
A good read.
