Clive Cussler - Iceberg

Review by Brian Lowen 16th July
Another Dirk Pitt adventure.
Dirk Pitt is the American answer to James Bond. He works for NUMA (the National Underwater and Marine Agency)

The towering iceberg drifting in the North Atlantic was a floating tomb. Embedded in the great gleaming mass was a ship – sealed in so solidly that not even its mast protruded.

Here was a sea mystery to rank with the Bermuda Triangle and the Marie Celeste – so the blurb on the back of the book goes which is a gross exaggeration.

So Major Dirk Pitt investigates this iceberg by landing a helicopter on the top, only to find out that the ship has been completely burnt out. As it burnt it must have drifted into the iceberg – the heat melted the ice and the ship slowly moved into the iceberg until it became entombed. This is the first unbelievable part of the story and there is more to come. The scene moves on to Iceland where Dirk uncovers a plot being hatched by a consortium of the richest men in the world to cause a takeover of Bolivia and then move into other South American countries, allegedly to provide aid to the poor but really to grab all the mineral wealth of the countries for themselves.
Not one of Clive Cussler’s better books. OK for a little light reading but not to be taken seriously!
