KATHARINE MCMAHON - CONFINEMENT

REVIEW BY MAGGIE PERKOVIC
IN 1849 BESS HARDEMON ARRIVES AT THE GRIMLY VICTORIAN PRIORS HEATH SCHOOL, DETERMINED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE LIVES OF THE GIRLS THERE, BUT AT WHAT PERSONAL COST??
IN 1967 SARAH BECKETT IS DELIGHTED TO GAIN A PLACE AT PRIORS HEATH, AS MUCH FOR THE PRIDE OF HER PARENTS AS FOR HERSELF, BUT WILL SHE FIT IN WITH THE OTHER GIRLS, PARTICULARLY THE WILD, UNPREDICTABLE IMOGEN??
OVER ACENTURY APART, TWO FEMALES STRUGGLING TO FIND A PLACE FOR THEMSELVES IN A WORLD WHERE RESTRICTIONS OF SOCIETY, MARRIAGE AND EVEN MOTHERHOOD STILL HAVE POWERFUL, FAR REACHING CONSEQUENCES.
WELL WRITTEN, QUITE GRIPPING, EVEN IF THE TWO LADIES INVOLVED SEEM TO HAVE LOST THEIR WAY NOW AND THEN!!!
COULDN'T FEEL TOO MUCH EMPATHY WITH THE PRESENT DAY TEACHER, SEEMED TO HAVE A LOT OF TIME TO SPARE!!!
INTERESTING LOOK AT THE RESTRICTIONS OF VICTORIAN LADIES!!
WELL WORTH READING
