It is a novel written for young adults, with a message and worth reading.
The Curious Incident.. is written by a boy with Aspergers Syndrome and provides a brilliant insight into that condition which I confess I knew very little about. the writing is completely flat and unemotional - a major factor in the syndrome - and makes one realise just how isolated a sufferer is and how incredibly frustrating it must be for his parents, teachers and acquaintances who have daily contact. The story itself is brilliantly told, leaving the reader to fill in the emotion - marriage breakup, diappointment and all the things we recognise so easily - by the boy in his cocoon of ritual regimentation.
Mark Haddon is an extraordinary writer and I await his next offering with enormous anticipation.
