You may recognise this authors name as he has co-written with James Patterson, but the couple of books I read with them both co-authoring I wasn*t impressed with. BUT this was another 50p from the charity shop so I thought I'd take in on hols and give it a go.
Well, I'm glad I only paid 50p for it! The first few pages were ok but....
It's predictable & repetitive, telling the story over and over.
It's hero (Bruce Willis type ) & heroine fall in love, typical daytime US TV series stuff!
2003, Charles Friedman is married, wife & 2 kids. When a bomb goes off on a train station the train Charles was on was in the firing line.
Believed dead his wife Karen & her kids hold a memorial for him.
Ty Hauck, a police lieutenant, is investigating a hit & run. The dead victim has Charle's card in his pocket & was going to meet someone when it happened. Ty is convinced it was premeditated murder. He has to talk to the widow, Karen & its lust at first sight.
Anyway, 1 year later, there is a documentary on the TV honouring the victims of the bombing. Low & behold Karens heart stops when she ctaches a glimpse of a face in the crowd! She pauses the programme & replays it a 100 times, yes it is her deceased husbands face but this is after the bombing. Who she gonna call (Ghost Busters!), no Ty Hauck the police lieutenant.
So, the story unfolds, other similar deaths of associates occur. Money laundering, secret bank accounts, millions of missing US dollars, threats to Karen & her children from ruthless business people. Bruce Willis, sorry Ty, risks his job to find Charles for Karen & discover what and who lies behind it all.
Actually, I could have told them half way through if they'd have asked!
It was a groan book (god I can't believe I am reading this!!), even his name made me wince!
This reviewer on the 'Amazon' site sums it up rather well:
Quote:'Slow, annoying, repetitive and rambling, the addition of the addressee's name to almost every second line of dialogue was incredibly annoying' :
'What are you doing here, Ty? I've been looking through Charles things and can't find anything, Ty".
"Don't worry, Karen. I have done some research and have found out a lot, Karen" replied Ty.
"Oh thank God, Ty. I was getting worried. So what have you found out, Ty?".
