review by showhost
I picked up this book when I was going away recently to see my mum on her birthday. I have read and enjoyed her books previously but I was very disappointed with this one. In fact I am ashamed to say I didn't finish it! I had started skimming pages to try and finish it off but I failed!
It was about a PI called Kate Brannigan who was first of all following up a scam where the recently bereaved were being embezelled out of their savings by buying fictitious gravestones. Then her lesbian friends asked her to look into the death of a pioneering embryonist who had given them fertility treatment and their unborn baby. Also, a member of a punk/rock band had asked the same PI to find out why their gigs were being sabatoged and ticket sales down. All this was washed down with wise cracks such as quote:'Saying I was shocked is like saying Tom Hanks is an actor'.
It just didn't grab my interest at all nor did I bind with the characters.
I can only assume this was one of her early books then she got better with practice.
