Simon Beckett - Written in Stone

review by show host
yahoo! I have found another crime writer who I really enjoy!
This is the first of this authors books I have read and I now want to find the first one he wrote 'Chemistry of Death'.
I couldn't wait to get back to this book, to get back into the story and back to Runa, in Scotland.
Dr David Hunter, ex GP now forensic anthropologist, has been asked to check out what appears to be a case of 'spontaneous human combustion' on the Scottish island of Runa.
A body is found in a deserted cottage, just the feet and hands remain. The local police feel that there is nothing sinister about the death. Dr Hunter however, discovers evidence that points to murder. As, the island becomes cut off from the mainland by a fierce storm, cutting off electricity and telephone lines and outside help, the murderer strikes again and again. Nobody is save on the island of Runa.
This was a great whodunnit. It had more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. I really enjoyed the whole feel of the book, from the description of island life, the locals and just when you thought the book had finished along came another twist. I really enjoy Simon Kernick books and this was on a par.
Bring on another!
