Meg Hutchinson - A Handful of Silver

review by Maggie Perkovic live on show 6th Sept 2012.
Banished from her father's sight and home since the age of four, wheelchair bound Esther Kerral is horrified when Jos Kerral forces her into an arranged marriage with Morgan Cosmore, the son of a local factory owner. Both fathers hope the union will save their ailing businesses;little do they know that each is as bankrupt as the other.
But Morgan's inclinations have long lain in another, perverse direction and poor Esther must struggle as best she can not only to survive a loveless marriage, but also to buil up a business of her own in a man's world.
This is the precis on the book cover, and it really says it all. Another easy read, you can see the ending quite soon, apart from a suprise twist towards the end.The heroine is the usual pretty girl with would you credit it "Bronze" eyes!!!!The villains are villainous, very, the noble people very noble, certainly the prospective hero, the suffering poor very poor.
It is a worthy successor to Josephine Cox and Catherine Cookson. Maggie Perkovic.
