This is a great read for anyone who enjoys a good crime thriller because it
is really good!
the main characters are DS Duncan Kincaid and his wife, DI Gemma James, who
have featured in several of Deborah Crombies previous novels.
the story opens with a lone female setting off for a training row late one
winters afternoon from the Leander Club on the Thames at Henley. She never
returns and is eventually found drowned down river, her damaged boat
upstream.
The victims is a Met police officer, DCI Rebecca Meredith, and when
forensic investigation proves sshe was murdered a chain of events is set off
involving her ex-husband, several fellow female officers as well as members of a
search & rescue team based in Henley.
The story is very satisfyingly plotted and ends with an extremely tense
situation. The river and the mechanics of competitive rowing are vividly
described and the action convincing and realistic.
I'm surprised that Kincaid and James haven't been taken up by a TV
company. They are a good partnership and the stories would make an excellent
series now that Lewis is sadly over. How about it ITV?
