Tim Weaver - Chasing The Dead

review by showhost
I really don't know what to say about this book, I don't know if I liked it or not yet kept reading it. After a slow start (like first couple hundred pages)the action began to speed up and the violence creeps in.  It's weird, its not a crime book as in Peter James or Simon Kernick, it dips slightly into the dark side.
An ex-reporter, missing persons investigator, David Raker, is asked by a mother to find her son.  Her son went missing a few years ago then was killed ina car accident a year ago.  But she saw him on the street a month ago!
David Raker is still haunted by the loss of his wife and is reluctant to take on the case, especially as he thinks it must be mistaken identity.  But deep down he thinks that maybe if this dead person is still alive then maybe there is hope for his deceased wife.
As the story picks up David finds himself being warned off the hunt and his life threatened by a sinister cult.
He is flayed, beaten, crucified but still manages to kill the baddies - amazing!
It's not my cuppa tea so won't be looking to read another by this author.
